After School Program

Our Purpose: Educating Today for a Better Tomorrow

Mission:    To provide educational programs which are inviting, safe, and challenging for our students; developing in each student love for learning, self-discipline, confidence, respect for self and others, and a desire for lifelong service in their community.  To continuously improve student achievement.

The Parma Learning Center After-School Program is designed for children who need to be in a safe environment after school, both providing enrichment and educational intervention support for its students. The program also supports the families of these children through Adult Services.  With programs in ESL( English as a Second Language), SSL (Spanish as a Second Language), GED (General Education Diploma), Karate is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays for all ages.

Our Vision: Provide a Positive Learning Environment Where All Children and Families Become improved Citizens.

The Parma Learning Center started another year of the after-school program on September 15th. There are separate classes for each of grades 1 through 4 in the Elementary School and they offer reading, math and language instruction as well as computer based preparation for the ISAT tests using Plato. In the Middle School, classes include art, science, math and English. All students in the after-school program can get tutoring and homework assistance.

The after-school program is held until 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and busing is available. Admittance in the after school program is based on day-school teacher referrals.

The after-school program also incorporates service learning through gardening and nutrition instruction and garden-related service projects. We use Junior Master Gardener and Modern Woodsmen of America curriculum. PLC teachers teach basic science and art related to service learning goals as well as help the student leaders and their teams with project planning.
