Our after school program prides itself in the conduct of its students. A well-disciplined, neat and clean atmosphere provides the best environment for students to take full advantage of their educational opportunities. We have high, but not unreasonable, standards of conduct and behavior for all of our students. We believe appropriate student conduct is essential to help us make each student's experience at school more meaningful, productive and enjoyable.
The maintenance of proper school behavior is necessary not only to provide an effective learning environment for all students, but also it involves an educational process designed to:
1. Develop the student's ability to assume responsibility for his/her actions;
2. Develop the student's awareness of the impact of his/her actions on rights of others;
3. Develop the student's ability to deal with problems within the framework of accepted social standards;
4. Develop the student's sense of respect for himself, other people, property, and the laws governing our society.
Close cooperation between the home and the school is essential in the development of appropriate behavioral patterns. The rules governing the behavior of students and the operation of the school reflect three guiding principles: (1) the school exists as a place to learn; (2) teachers have a right to teach and all students have a right to learn; and (3) self-discipline is the key to after school program discipline. Our expectation for student conduct reflects the use of common sense, good manners, and respect for one another.
Individual Classrooms: Each teacher will develop, teach, and post a set of rules for classroom management that state the expected behaviors. This plan will also specify how inappropriate behavior will be dealt with and how proper behavior will be recognized and encouraged.
General Rules: All rules (bus, lunchroom, playground, hallways) implemented during the school day are in effect in the after school programs.
